Job Overview

The Forensic Mechanical Engineer is primarily focused on the completion of forensic engineering assignments. You will consistently ensure that your forensic assignments conform to the standards of the company, embody the commitment FRT has made to our clients, and adhere to budget parameters. Our Forensic Mechanical Engineer is responsible for several concurrent projects at one time. The Forensic Engineer will report to the Principal & Sr. Fire and Explosion Consultant.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide expert forensic analysis to our clients on an array of mechanical engineering projects
  • Provide honest, unbiased analysis and consultation on various product failures
  • Travel is required.  Travel to regions beyond the United States may be necessary in some cases
  • Monitor and maintain assignments; update clients as needed
  • Compose and submit detailed, accurate reports to clients on completed assignments in a timely manner in accordance with company guidelines
  • Provide expert testimony and depositions as required
  • A willingness to work a flexible schedule and additional hours during periods of peak business demand is essential to our company’s culture and success
  • Continuing education and training, certifications and educational opportunities

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in related engineering field: Mechanical
  • Applicants must be an active registered Professional Engineer (PE).  Multiple active state PE licensures, especially in surrounding states are highly recommended but not required
  • CFI or CFEI certification is desired but not required
  • Must be willing to go through the process of obtaining additional state licensures in accordance with business demand and management discretion. All required fees associated with obtaining additional state licensures will typically be company paid
  • Previous forensic experience is highly preferred but not required
  • Previous expert testimony or deposition experience highly preferred but not required
  • The nature of Fire Research & Technology’s work requires travel and flexibility in order to meet the needs of our clients
  • Possess critical thinking and organizational skills with the ability to deliver timely and accurate summaries.  Excellent written and verbal skills are required. Experience with writing detailed reports is highly preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills are crucial to providing emails, reports and summaries to clients
  • Our Forensic Mechanical Engineer will manage multiple projects during periods of high volume, especially during times of peak business demand
  • Experience with hands on engineering is required
  • As the Forensic Mechanical Engineer, you will be asked to climb roofs, crawl in tight spaces, etc. in order to complete scene exams and investigations
  • Must have a good understanding of photography
  • Must be able to perform microscopy on forensic evidence
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the company’s guidelines
  • Must maintain a clean driving record
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must pass a criminal background check
